In case anyone wonders, my phone number is 206-412-xxxx (yes, I am intentionally x’ing it out). Apparently there is someone with the phone number 206-415-xxxx that calls a lot of people… and doesn’t leave messages (i.e. the number shows up on people’s caller IDs).

So for the past few weeks I’ve been getting random phone calls from people (all across the country) calling and telling me that they were returning my call. “Huh?” I ask. “I saw your number on my caller ID… I am returning your call.” “But I didn’t call you…” “Well I have your number on my caller ID…” “What phone number do you have?” “2-0-6-4-1-5-x-x-x-x” “Yeah, that’s not my number. I’m 4-1-2.” “Oh, sorry…”

Seriously — conversations just like that numerous times.

On Tuesday I got a call at 7:30 a.m. (I wake up at 9:30 a.m., so this was quite early). I got a little upset: “Why are you calling me?? I’m 4-1-2!!” “Oh, sorry…” “No, why? How did you mess up the 5 and the 2?? This happens all the time! I want to know what happened?” “Sorry, I’m not sure. Goodbye.”

Argh!!!!

I honestly feel like I’m in a movie and/or there is some conspiracy trying to make me crazy. I have tried to call this 206-415-xxxx number and it is always busy.

My working theory is that this phone number is hooked up to a modem or fax machine that is constantly calling random numbers… then the people see it on their missed calls list and somehow call me back.

The thing is, if the number is on their caller ID, how are they always messing it up and calling me instead of who really called? I understand that 2 and 5 can look somewhat similar on an LED screen… but still!! Argh. This is driving me insane. So I guess the ultimate evil scheme is working? Grrr….

  1. I live in Texas and have been recieving calls in Spanish on my cell phone from 206-415-9247 too!!! When I call it back, it gives me a busy signal also.
    Will do more research. Thanks for all the info with these posts!

  2. Just called the FCC (Thanks for the phone number) and they told me to fill out a complaint online: http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/complaints.html
    The woman I spoke with also said that I have to register my phone number on the “Do Not Call List” at 1-888-382-1222. Hopefully these will stop if enough of us complain!

  4. I just received a call on my cell phone from 206.415.8739 and when I call it’s always busy. If it happens again I’m going to call the FCC. Thanks for the number and info. Has anyone else seen this number?

  5. I have received these calls too, last couple of days, in the DC area – caller ID says it is Evergreen at 206-415-9365. I screen calls with caller ID, and had the same symptom – no message left.
    This may be like scam phishing on the Internet – they may be establishing that the number they call is a working number, to build some kind of master call list. Sounds like that since they don’t respond if you pick up.

    I suggest doing what others have suggested with reporting this, etc. If the calls persist, you may want to buy a call screening device which screens your calls before ringing them through to your phone, and will block those numbers you want to block. I do this all the time since the National Do Not Call list aapears to be useless – I still get solicitor calls, and then add them to my call screening device so that they don’t ring my phone again.

  7. Yep, me too. Just got hit by them, and another number on another phone, too. I did not call back with my cell, I called back with a different phone after *67 the call – could be what happened to you.

    Might want to change your number. I’ve already filed my fraud complaints with the FCC and will continue to do so every time they call.

  9. thanks for the site. I’ve had a couple calls from 206-415-9365 cid of evergreen. I live in NY and I’m not sure I was on national registry (am now), but I know I’m on NY’s registry. I’ll be calling the doo also.

    SOMEONE get these foolz. I have all symptoms as described above….my phone is a cell phone as opposed to a home phone.

  11. What we know so far: Guardian Communications (309 277 1222) owns at least 2 of the 206 #’s ( 206 415 8940 ) card services and ( 206 415 9327 ) guardian. Missouri A.G. subpoenaed Marathon Communications (800 919 1000) and got that info. I also believe they use (206 278 9390) sat.inc (206 415 8880) cust. service and (206 415 9369). When you call all these #’s you get exactly the same message. (206 415 9365) gets Evergreen Sales and Marketing message. (206 415 8614) gets customer service recording with a female voice. (206 415 9322)”survey call” (206 415 8547) health plans and (206 415 9247) corporate office “message in Spanish” still get a fast busy when you call back.The question is, does Guardian use all the 206#’s for different clients or does Marathon provide 206#’s to different telemarketers. Please post if you have any information.

  12. Thank all of you for finding out about the 206 # I usually recieve them about 8;30 p.m. I screen all my calls and haven’t called them back. I don’t know anyone in Washington State , so I will not be calling them. I will however call the http://www.donotcall.gov. asap Thanks again for the info.

  17. I got that same (206)415-9247 number on my cell phone today. I answered and there was a recording of some guy witha starnge accent. Weirdness.

  18. I received the same call 206-415-9635 from Evergreen, it was the first call from this number. I had been having a problem with calls from telemarketers and luckily when the Evergreen call came in I had my computer set up with the IVM Answering Attendant (available on-line) and had loaded a SIT tone which stands for “Special Information Tone”. Of course, the SIT tones are three precise, sequential tones, typically applied with a recorded announcement to explain the failed call attempt to the calling party. Which are used for foiling people that abuse the phone system. So, I guess I had the last laugh at least on this one.

  19. My call came in while I was donating blood this morning. I thought it might be my kids so I picked without seeing who it was because I was laying prone with a needle and tube in my arm. 206 415 9247. I gave blood and now I’m out for blood. I’m tired of repeating hello. I also get overseas calls from family and friends and id doesn’t always show up the same. It gives me agita! They’re gonna wish they’d never called this girl, lemme tell ya. I never give up on justice.

  21. It’s not about hiding from someone, Gonzo. We are all paying for a service and the very least we derserve is some control over who can use the things WE are paying for.

    People don’t want to be disturbed for various reasons and here are a few:

    1. Different people work at different times and sleep schedules vary from person to person.

    2. Some people have new babies in the home and don’t want to be disturbed.

    3. Some people have to pay per minute for service. Why should they have to pay extra for someone to call them that was never asked to?

    These telemarketers or whomever they are an uninvited nuisance. They intrude on sleep, family time, meal time, quiet time, and a paid service. Our phones are for our use and those we give permission to — not some hokey telemarketer who was never welcome in the first place.

  22. I’m in Houston – rec’d call last night from 206-415-9247. Did not answer – phoned number back today and like most, rec’d “fast” busy signal – The cell phone I rec’d call on was already on DO NOT CALL list – I re-registered again today will probably go to website and make a complaint using this number if at all possible.

  25. got a call for the first time today from the 206-415-8880#. id says customer service. no clue. i used to get the same thing from my credit card company and every time i would answer there was no one there and if i called back it was busy. now that i work in collections, i know that sometimes the numbers are dialed by the computer, and you have no idea who you are calling until someone has already picked up and said hello. you can’t hear them until after they have already spoken. then the name pops up on the monitor and you go from there, but a lot of the time there is a lag and the person thinks no one is on the line so they hang up, while we are sitting there trying to figure out who to ask for.
    as far as the guy who didn’t understand why people were accidentally calling him at 206-412-whatever, it happens all the time because the buttons are located directly above each other on the keypad and someone is bound to misdial such #’s. my # is 6621, and i get calls for several different businesses who’s #’s are very similar to mine at least 5 times a day, every day. doesn’t really bother me that much. you can fix that by leaving a msg on your machine clearly stating your correct # and that if they are trying to reach whatever this company is at 206 whatever then they have called a wrong #.

    I live in the Dallas area and am on the “Do NOT CALL” list home and cell phone but they 206-415-9247 called on my cell phone during PEAK hours (ugh) and I couldnt even tell them how much I didnt appreciate it because it was a computer with a Spanish message… I am reporting them too. I tried calling back the phone but the message said the call couldnt go through at this time. PLEASE….

  28. I answered the call and got a human on the other end! Finally! They claimed to call on behalf of Adelphia Cable Network. I was angry and cut her off before getting more info. She said yes, she would put our number on the do not call list and she was sorry to have disturbed me. 206-415-9365 was the caller id.

  30. I have some info for all of you. I had been hearing this imcomplete voicemail message left on my WORK phone about two times within the past two weeks. I couldnt do anything about it since there was no call number. However today 8/18/05 I recieved a call on my cell number and its from Washington. I answered it and it was the whole recorded message I had been hearing on my WORK phone voicemail box. ( As soon as u answer it starts playing) So I went along with it and waited . Well the recorded message was in Spanish. According to them they are claiming that I won a prize and to push number 2 to claim my prize. So I did. I guess a representative from this company comes on and introduces herself and I ask her is there anyone there that speaks english. (but i asker her in spanish) She told me no and then what seemed to freak out and just hang up on me. That was it. But now that I have read all this stuff on this website I think Iam going to try these numbers to get them to quit their sh!t.

  31. The question now becomes how we all got on the mailing list in the first place? I got the phone call last night, and like many, googled my way through here this morning.

    More than anything, it is just annoying. Did anyone do anything out of the ordinary before getting calls from this number? And did you notice any difference on your phone bill?

I got a call from this number (206-415-9247)on my cell a few days ago, and when I answered, I thought it sounded like someone was speaking Spanish but it was hard to tell because I was in a fairly noisy restaurant. So, when I got another call from that number a few minutes ago on my cell (while I was on my home phone), I Googled it, too, which is how I got here.

    So, I guess my next call is to the FCC.

    Thanks for this board, otherwise I’d be going crazy from pure curiosity! Also, it looks as though they’re hitting the Houston area right now, since that’s where I am, and I noticed a few posters from here recently.

  34. same call for me. Live in Wisconsin. Get it a couple times a day for the last month or 2. I’ve tried to answer it a couple times but nobody is ever there. No messages ever. I called it back and added myself to their automated “do not call list”. I doubt it’ll work. My caller ID always says Evergreen. I have Vonage for phone service…anyone else in that boat?

  35. I’ve been receiving sporadic phone calls from 206-415-9365 over the past few weeks. After reading the comments posted here, I decided to file a complaint with donotcall.gov and, after entering the information, received the following:

    WE ARE UNABLE TO ACCEPT YOUR COMPLAINT
    The phone number 206-415-9365 was registered on 8/12/2005. Companies may call you for up to 31 days after that date. You may file a complaint if a company calls you after 9/12/2005.

  36. I got a call from that # and tried to call it back and got a busy signal also. I googled it and found out that it belongs to a company called Vonage. They are a broadband phone company, apparently. Sorry you get stuck with a similar #. On the bright side… at least it’s not a phone sex line! 🙂

  37. HEY I JUST HAD 3 MISSED CALLS FROM THAT NUMBER & WHEN I TRIED CALLING IT IT JUST BEEPED LIKE IT WAS OUT OF SERVICE. FREAKING WIERD. THEN I LOOKED THE NUMBER UP AND THAT AREA CODE IS FROM SEATTLE WASH. I DON’T KNOW WHAT THE DEAL IS, BUT THAT PERSON PROBABLY HAS A PRETTY EXPENSIVE PHONE BILL. DUMB ASS.

  38. What the hell! This number called me and left this wierd half-a-second message that was like ha-diba-a-blogo. And that was it. I called it back and it actuall was busy. STRANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  39. I also have recieved calls from 206-415-9365. When I called back it said I could press 1 to be added to Evergreens do not call list. Yeah right like I’m going to press anything. “Press 1 to be added to our don’t call list, but what we really mean is press 1 to allow us to call you anytime we want and not allow you to file a grievance with the FCC because by pressing one you are actually giving us permission to intrude on your life at all hours. Ha Ha.” I tried to do a Google search for Evergreen Marketing and Sales but I don’t find anyting from Washington state. ( My CID displays Washington Call ) Has anyone else tried this and had better luck?

  41. Just received a message from this phone # 206-415-9395 based in Seattle. Got the call on all 3 office phone lines and our fax line. I answered two of them and got a wierd guy on one who mumbled and hung up, then another on just hung up on hearing my voice and company name.
    I am in Canada and cannot get put on the Do Not Call List.

  46. Gotta hate em. When I get a live person on the end, I advise them that they aren’t on my “do not hit with a stick list”, but I don’t just walk around hitting them. Since they’re going to call anyway, I do sometimes have fun with them. Got one call in with the “press 1 to speak with a representative” so I did, and when he answered, I did my best “computer voice” and offered to save him hundreds on his cell phone bill. He was really confused……

  49. Hello, I am in Texas. Got a call a few minutes ago from “Washington” # 206-415-9247 for the first time ever. I tried to call back only to get a busy signal. Whats the deal? Has anyone answered it? What did they say? Seems like a pain in the arse to me!
