Fudge Krispies

Back when I was a kid and in elementary school you brought your own treats on your birthday, my mom would always make Fudge Krispies for me to bring. I’ve never liked Rice Krispie Treats, but these chocolate fudge ones are great — and no marshmallow (which, being a vegetarian nowadays, is a bonus).
I made them again last night, and thought I should share the recipe:
- 11 ½ oz. package of milk chocolate chips (not the semi-sweet ones)
- ½ C. margarine
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 5 ½ C. Rice Krispies
- ½ C. light corn syrup
- 1 C. powdered sugar
Combine chocolate chips, margarine, and corn syrup. Stir over low heat until melted. Stir in powdered sugar and vanilla. Add Rice Krispies, mixing lightly until well coated. Pour into 9in x 13in pan. Chill.

Looks good. Are they more on the chewy or hard side?

Hmmm they are more on the hard side. They for sure have a different consistency than traditional Rice Krispie Treats. They are more “fudge”-like, I guess?

Hey Jas -
Did I ever make you my moms famous chocolate peanut butter rice crispy treats??? They are TO DIE FOR. They’re not hard, but no marshmallows so they’re more melt in your mouth than sticky chewy. Can I just say that anytime you add chocolate to rice crispy treats they’re fabulous. ALSO - a few months ago I made regular RCTs but added white chocolate chips. VERY RICH, but VERY GOOD!!!

I vaguely sorta maybe recall you making them? If not the year we lived together, then maybe the year before when you lived off Lawrence. You should share the recipe, though
