{"id":65,"date":"2005-05-26T14:19:25","date_gmt":"2005-05-26T21:19:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thecompany.net\/jason\/posts\/2005\/kunstler-vs-lovins\/"},"modified":"2005-05-26T14:20:01","modified_gmt":"2005-05-26T21:20:01","slug":"kunstler-vs-lovins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thecompany.net\/jason\/posts\/2005\/kunstler-vs-lovins\/","title":{"rendered":"Kunstler vs. Lovins"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/salon.com\">Salon.com<\/a> has an interesting (and somewhat catty) exchange between James Howard Kunstler and Amory Lovings: <a href=\"http:\/\/salon.com\/tech\/feature\/2005\/05\/26\/lovins_kunstler\/index.html\">&#8220;Sparks Fly.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know much about Kunstler, save <a href=\"http:\/\/salon.com\/news\/feature\/2005\/05\/14\/kunstler\/index.html\">the Salon.com interview &#8220;After the oil is gone&#8221;<\/a> from last week, but I have read Lovins&#8217; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allconsuming.net\/item\/asin\/0316353000\"><i>Natural Capitalism<\/i><\/a> and found it to be a really inspiring and thought-provoking book.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure I would say I totally agree with or disagree with either Kunstler&#8217;s or Lovins&#8217; arguments in the Salon piece. They book make valid points. I wish that their little back-and-forth dealt more with the deeper issues than technical\/petty things (e.g. how Lovins&#8217; paper <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oilendgame.com\/\">&#8220;Winning the Oil Endgame&#8221;<\/a> was peer-reviewed, the technical benefits of Lovins&#8217; Rocky Mountain Institute campus, etc.).<\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, I&#8217;m always interested in reading about the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_urbanism\">new urbanist movement<\/a> so the article was slightly informative.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Salon.com has an interesting (and somewhat catty) exchange between James Howard Kunstler and Amory Lovings: &#8220;Sparks Fly.&#8221; I don&#8217;t know much about Kunstler, save the Salon.com interview &#8220;After the oil is gone&#8221; from last week, but I have read Lovins&#8217; Natural Capitalism and found it to be a really inspiring and thought-provoking book.
